In this week, I learned about the convergent and divergent thinking, logical mindmap, and stereotypes in creative studies class.
Convergent/Divergent Thinking
Convergent thinking is a process that generates normal idea to solve standard problem whereas divergent thinking can be used to explore many possibility in order to get creative ideas as solution.
Mindmapping
Mindmapping which was introduced by Tony Buzan is a great approach to get many ideas and brainstorming. It binds both creator and views in a interesting way. Mindmap can be categorized into two methods which are Logical Mind-map and Associated Mind-map.
Logical Mind-map is connected to stereotypes and directly related to central subject through it links while Associated Mind-map is generate random words and also show the links between words that seemingly have no connection. There are many benefits for us to use it. However, there are several rules should be obeyed in creating of mindmap.
Stereotype
Stereotype can be defined as a conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
"A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. The concepts of "stereotype" and "prejudice" are often confused with many other different meanings. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions. Generally speaking, stereotypes are not based on objective truth but rather subjective and sometimes unverifiable content-matter," cited from Wikipedia.
Reflection
In my opinion, mindmap is very useful that it really help me a lot in art and design when I would like to get new ideas based on a theme or topic. I have learned the technique of creating a logical mind map during my foundation year. So, I am more familiar with the logical mind map as I have expriences in doing it if compare to associated mind map. Moreover, it can be used as a visual communication between designer and viewers/clients that it conveys the many ideas with the aid of graphics and texts to viewer. Furthermore, both convergent and divergent thinking can help us generate more and more ideas for mindmapping purpose.
