In this week, Mr Radzi had talked about the topic of "Juxtaposition". We have been asked to do some exercise to learn about analogy of Juxtaposition.
Step1
Mr. Radzi prepared a lists of 20 elements which are categorized into 2 groups.
Step2
We have to choose 3 pairs of numbers from range 00 ~99.
I chose 77, 89, 86
Step3
We have to match words into 3 pairs based on the chosen numbers.
SO, there are
77 = Dog + Tree
89 = Oil + Rain
86 = Oil + Spider
Step4
We have to make a sentence for each pair and visualize them by drawing or sketching.
1. My dog lives under a big tree.
2. The oil on floor has been cleaned by the water of rain.
3. Bottle of oil pours on the body of spider.
Step5
We have to combine each of paired word into a new word and visualize them.
1. DogTree
2. OilRain
3. OilSpider
Exercise 5
Lesson 05 Juxtaposition
In this week, we have learned the new topic "Juxtaposition". Juxtaposition can be defined as arranging two variable, side by side, their contrast or similarity are shown in comparison. Our human brain have the ability that translate and get the meaning by justaposing two different things together. In literally, Juxtaposition can be the synonymous of contrast, two objects or texts the oppose each other. Random juxtaposition is two random objects moving in parallel, a technique intended to stimulate creativity.
Juxtaposition
A classic building is juxtaposed with a modern building behind.
A Juxtaposition of a motorbike and small bike.
In conclusion, Juxtaposition is a very useful method in creative process that it arranges two different subjects through comparison and then help in generating a new idea.
Reflection
In my opinion, Juxtaposition is very useful that it can create a image with a composition of contrastive things. Furthermore, a composition which is juxtaposed by two contrastive visual elements will looks balance on the overall design. Furthermore, it makes the composition seem more interesting on visual communication aspect. As the result, public attention will be grabbed by the interesting composition of juxtaposition. So, we, as designer, should apply this skill on our design or artwork in order to reach the design goal
Exercise 4
I have to select few keywords from the mind map of Mortar and Pestle which is prepared by the lecturer. I choose the keywords: Malaysia, music and food.
Malaysia
Mortar and Pestle can be represented as a mixer of multiple culture or a big environment that allow different kinds of races are living together in harmony.
Music
It can be produced by hitting the mortar with pestle.
Food
It can be made by mixing several ingredient in mortar with the support of pestle hit.
Lessson 04 Associated Mind Map
In this week, Mr. Radzi conducted a lecture about the associated mind map. It is belonged to the part of Method of Creative Thinking lesson. There is a different in technique between Associated Mind Map and Logical Mind Map. In Logical Mind Map, the main central subject is linked with every words and images whereas in Associated Mind Map, every words and images is away from the main central subject. In other words, new random words are generated from the main central subject by using associated mind map. However, the links between words that seemingly have no connection in associated mind map.
In conclusion, Associated Mind Map is used to generate new idea with any possibility.
Reflection
I have totally no idea about Associated Mind Map until having this class. I have many experience on doing mind map but only on logical mind map since my foundation year. Our brainstorming skill have been trained on the process of making mind map. Mind map is very useful that it helps us to generate many ideas from a specific topic or theme before start doing a design. I think I can get more different kinds of idea once I understand how do a Associated Mind Map works. Both logical mind map and associated mind map should be learned and used as the technique or skill to generate more creative idea.
Exercise 3

Creative Mind Map about Me
We are required to create a mind-map about ourselves for this week exercise.
I am Tan Jia Hao who study in Film and Animation, MMU. I love drawing and painting especially digital portrait painting.
This mindmap was made by using digital media, photoshop. I drew a self portrait and then put it on the center of the mind map as it is all about myself. I added some brush strokes and lines on it to show the artistic mood of mindmap.
Lessson 03 Method of Creative Thinking
In this week, I learned about the convergent and divergent thinking, logical mindmap, and stereotypes in creative studies class.
Convergent/Divergent Thinking
Convergent thinking is a process that generates normal idea to solve standard problem whereas divergent thinking can be used to explore many possibility in order to get creative ideas as solution.
Mindmapping
Mindmapping which was introduced by Tony Buzan is a great approach to get many ideas and brainstorming. It binds both creator and views in a interesting way. Mindmap can be categorized into two methods which are Logical Mind-map and Associated Mind-map.
Logical Mind-map is connected to stereotypes and directly related to central subject through it links while Associated Mind-map is generate random words and also show the links between words that seemingly have no connection. There are many benefits for us to use it. However, there are several rules should be obeyed in creating of mindmap.
Stereotype
Stereotype can be defined as a conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
"A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. The concepts of "stereotype" and "prejudice" are often confused with many other different meanings. Stereotypes are standardized and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions. Generally speaking, stereotypes are not based on objective truth but rather subjective and sometimes unverifiable content-matter," cited from Wikipedia.
Reflection
In my opinion, mindmap is very useful that it really help me a lot in art and design when I would like to get new ideas based on a theme or topic. I have learned the technique of creating a logical mind map during my foundation year. So, I am more familiar with the logical mind map as I have expriences in doing it if compare to associated mind map. Moreover, it can be used as a visual communication between designer and viewers/clients that it conveys the many ideas with the aid of graphics and texts to viewer. Furthermore, both convergent and divergent thinking can help us generate more and more ideas for mindmapping purpose.
