Exercise 7

We have to find solution for the problem by using random words that has been given.

To create "scary image" or "object" of sign that will instill fear among people through out the age.
Random word: CAT

Keywords for cat:
1. Nine Lives (means undead)
2. Sharp teeth and claws
3. Kill rat (means a killer)
I create a scary image that shows a human that undead and live as a killer and eat other human using his teeth and claws.

Lesson 07 Random Association

In this week, I learned a new topic about random association. Random association is a way of generating new idea by using random words which can provoke a result from the brain.
From the note, we know that the brain is good in connecting two different things together. This technique can be used by mindmapping random words and then associates them with the main subject. Thus, new idea come out.

Reflection

The exercises of this topic, random association, really help me a lot in understanding it. I can generate more idea by using this random words association method. After knowing this technique, I think that idea always stay beside me because idea can be just simply created by using random association. Every single word can be useful in creating idea, it is depend on how you relate both random word and subject matter together.

Exercise 6

This week's exercise, we have to create a passage to describe the concept of love, life, and women based on image given from lecture note.

Concept of Love

Love is like chili as it is the best ingredient to create exciting feeling on the journey of love.

Concept of Life
Life is like cup of coffee that it is composed of bitter, sweet, and many tastes as we can experience on our daily life.

Concept of Women

Women is like a goldfish wearing big fin in a aquarium that they like to make up their appearance by dressing beautifully and they would like to get protection from harm.

Lessson 06 Analogy

In this week, Mr Radzi conducted lesson about Analogy of Juxtaposition. Analogy is a approach to explain something by using something that has no apparent connection to the object. Analogy can be categorized into 2 types, which are logical analogy and affective analogy. From the lecture note, we know that logical analogy uses similarities in design, structure or function to connect back to the object. For example, both whale and submarine can dive into great depths. Affective analogy uses approach of emotional resemblance.

Furthermore, there is a relation between analogy, metaphor, and similes. The difference between metaphor and similes is that similes using like/as in sentence whereas metaphor not.

A lightbulb is a metaphor for an idea.

Reflection

In my opinion, analogy is very useful that we can create new idea or concept by using similar thing to explain or represent the object. It helps us in creative thinking that one kind stuff can be explained in different ways by using metaphor or similes methods. Furthermore, a sentence about a object will be interesting if applying the approach.

Exercise 5

In this week, Mr Radzi had talked about the topic of "Juxtaposition". We have been asked to do some exercise to learn about analogy of Juxtaposition.

Step1
Mr. Radzi prepared a lists of 20 elements which are categorized into 2 groups.

Step2
We have to choose 3 pairs of numbers from range 00 ~99.
I chose 77, 89, 86

Step3
We have to match words into 3 pairs based on the chosen numbers.
SO, there are

77 = Dog + Tree
89 = Oil + Rain
86 = Oil + Spider

Step4
We have to make a sentence for each pair and visualize them by drawing or sketching.

1. My dog lives under a big tree.

2. The oil on floor has been cleaned by the water of rain.

3. Bottle of oil pours on the body of spider.
Step5
We have to combine each of paired word into a new word and visualize them.

1. DogTree

2. OilRain

3. OilSpider

Lesson 05 Juxtaposition

In this week, we have learned the new topic "Juxtaposition". Juxtaposition can be defined as arranging two variable, side by side, their contrast or similarity are shown in comparison. Our human brain have the ability that translate and get the meaning by justaposing two different things together. In literally, Juxtaposition can be the synonymous of contrast, two objects or texts the oppose each other. Random juxtaposition is two random objects moving in parallel, a technique intended to stimulate creativity.

Juxtaposition

A classic building is juxtaposed with a modern building behind.

A Juxtaposition of a motorbike and small bike.

In conclusion, Juxtaposition is a very useful method in creative process that it arranges two different subjects through comparison and then help in generating a new idea.

Reflection

In my opinion, Juxtaposition is very useful that it can create a image with a composition of contrastive things. Furthermore, a composition which is juxtaposed by two contrastive visual elements will looks balance on the overall design. Furthermore, it makes the composition seem more interesting on visual communication aspect. As the result, public attention will be grabbed by the interesting composition of juxtaposition. So, we, as designer, should apply this skill on our design or artwork in order to reach the design goal

Exercise 4

Mortar and Pestle

I have to select few keywords from the mind map of Mortar and Pestle which is prepared by the lecturer. I choose the keywords: Malaysia, music and food.

Malaysia
Mortar and Pestle can be represented as a mixer of multiple culture or a big environment that allow different kinds of races are living together in harmony.

Music
It can be produced by hitting the mortar with pestle.

Food
It can be made by mixing several ingredient in mortar with the support of pestle hit.
